19. Points. 6. Jul 29, 2011. #1. Had the Panda from new coming up to it's 4 year service with 43000miles on the clock. Been recommended by garage to have the timing belt replaced. Seems a bit soon to me as the manual recommends a 5 year interval. Maybe I can wait another year or perhaps play safe and get it done.

The 50 k was forced on us by the alternator belt failing and taking out the timing belt. Yes the motor is 'safe' but it was a royal pita having to travel two hours in the dark to do it in the carpark of a roadside pub. I would advise replacing the alternator belt every two to three years and inspect the timing belt every year and use common sense.

It is a cheap job on one of these, alfaworkshop charge about £170. So expect about £200 from most other people I would guess.
